SURJ Northland is a collective of white people in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin
that envisions a world without institutional racism, white privilege, and systemic violence against communities of color.
SURJ stands for Showing Up for Racial Justice. SURJ Northland is affiliated with SURJ, a national network of groups and individuals who are organizing white people to act for racial justice. Through community organizing, mobilizing, and education, SURJ moves white people to act as part of a multiāracial majority for justice with passion and accountability. SURJ provides a space to build relationships, skills and political analysis to act for change.
SURJ Northland aims to be a long-term presence in the Northland, educating and organizing white people to:
(1) understand their stake in ending racism and
(2) organize in solidarity with people of color-led movements for racial justice.
We are about healing our community. Together we can build skills, create a shared language and vocabulary to talk about racism, and take real action that leads to sustained social change.
